How Do Veneers Create Stunning Smiles?

Veneers Create Stunning Smiles in North TomballPorcelain veneers from The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston have a multitude of applications, allowing you to transform your smile without significant restorative dental work.

Porcelain veneers are paper-thin, tooth-shaped covers that are affixed to the front of teeth. They are made of medical-grade ceramic.

Is your tooth enamel worn and thin? Tooth-colored porcelain veneers have the brilliance and translucency of healthy tooth enamel.

Have your teeth developed uneven edges? This can result from teeth grinding, natural wear and other factors. Veneers are a minimally invasive correction.

Do you have chips or cracks in your teeth? Porcelain veneers provide a flawless tooth surface. Are your teeth yellow or gray? Veneers can fix that, too. They can be made in any shade to perk up your smile while still blending naturally with your other teeth.

At The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston, we would be happy to show you what veneers can do for  you. We’ve used porcelain veneers to improve the smiles of people from East Spring, West Cypress, and Klein, who also come to our office for complete general dentistry. Has Your Smile Lost Its Luster?

Has Your Smile Lost Its Luster?

Has your smile lost its luster? Are your teeth discolored? If flashing a pearly white smile is important to you, cosmetic dentistry from The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston can help.

Whether your teeth have been stained by years of sipping dark-colored drinks, or smoking has left them brown and dull, we can restore the whiteness and give new life to your smile.

Maybe you have injured a tooth, causing it to turn gray. We offer several solutions to restore the color to a tooth. When you come in for a consultation we will determine which cosmetic dental procedure is optimal for your teeth.

Two of the most popular procedures we offer are porcelain veneers and teeth whitening.

  • Porcelain veneers are thin shells of medical-grade ceramic. They are permanently attached to the front of your teeth. People love them because they mask flaws like cracks and chips, and gaps between teeth.
  • Teeth whitening can transform discolored teeth, removing years of stains or yellowing. We offer in-office whitening and a take-home kit. Both of them surpass any over-the-counter product you’ll find at the store.

At The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston, we restore smiles with cosmetic dentistry every day. People from East Spring, West Cypress, and Klein trust us with ther smiles, and also come to our office for general dentistry and more. Call for an appointment today!

Better and Better: The Future of Implants

Dentists are always reminding their patients to brush and floss their teeth. It’s the best way to ensure healthy teeth and gums. But at The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston we know that some of our patients are going to lose a tooth, in spite of everyone’s best efforts. When that happens, we recommend dental implants as a solution.

Humans have experimented with replacing lost teeth for thousands of years. Archaeologists tell us that the first known instance of an implanted tooth comes from the remains of an Egyptian king, whose upper jaw had a copper peg in it. They think it was hammered into place, but that’s an image we do not want to dwell on.

Other ancient cultures experimented with carved bamboo, pieces of stone and steel, and even sea shells. Rest assured, dental implants since then have come a long, long way. Today dental implants are a titanium post that is surgically placed in the patient’s jaw. One implant can support a single artificial tooth. Multiple implants can support a set of dentures.

Dental prognosticators gazing into their crystal balls say that implants are going to get even better, and that improvements aren’t that far down the road. We can expect faster healing and even lower failure rates, which are already pretty low.

At present, the most common cause of failure in dental implants is oral microbial infection. New generations of dental implants are expected to feature a reservoir that slowly releases anti-microbial medicine that prevents the growth of bacteria.

To find out more about dental implants and whether they’re right for you, schedule an appointment with us at The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston. We’ve placed them in patients from East Spring, West Cypress, and Klein, who also come to us for complete general dentistry. Call our office today!

Just Like Natural Teeth (Naturally Perfect Teeth, That Is!)

porcelain veneers Houston

Is your smile beginning to look a little dull? Has its luster faded over the years? Maybe you’ve got a chipped tooth – or maybe even a couple. You don’t have to live with these imperfections if you don’t want to. At The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston, porcelain veneers can mask these and other dental flaws, leaving you with a magnificent smile.

Porcelain veneers are custom-fitted medical-grade porcelain shells that are permanently attached to the surface of the teeth that need correcting. They look just like natural teeth – perfectly natural teeth, that is.

Veneers are one of the most popular options available from modern cosmetic dentistry. They are so effective they’ve even been called “instant orthodontics.” Technically, of course, they are not orthodotnics – but they’re very strong, and can work wonders on any smile.

One thing to remember: a thin layer of enamel must be removed from the front of each tooth being covered with a veneer, in order for them to properly adhere. Once they’re cemented in place, they are permanent. But once they are in place, you’ll have the best-looking teeth of anyone you know.

To find out more about porcelain veneers, schedule an appointment with us at The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston. People from East Spring, West Cypress, and Klein come to us for veneers and other cosmetic dentistry. Call our office today!

It Doesn’t Take A Lot Of Time To Beautify Your Smile, Houston

Klein cosmetic smile makeover

At The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston we can improve your smile with cosmetic dentistry. Possibilities include restoring cracked or discolored teeth, straightening them, or even by replacing those that are missing.

We all want to have the best possible smiles, but cosmetic dentistry is more than just appearance. Straight teeth are easier to care for, and make for a healthier smile. That may explain why clear braces are so popular. They can straighten your teeth, and are almost undetectable as you wear them.

Also in demand are porcelain veneers. They can transform your appearance and are minimally invasive. A thin layer of tooth enamel is removed before veneers are permanently attached to your teeth. After that, you’ve got a mega-watt smile.

Dental implants are, in many ways, one of the most significant advances in the history of dentistry. Titanium posts inserted in the jaw can support one or more replacement teeth that look and function like the real thing.

At The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston, cosmetic dentistry can restore your smile. People from East Spring, West Cypress, and Klein also come to us for complete general dentistry. Call our office to schedule an appointment today!

Go Back In Time

cosmetic dental and implants North Tomball

So you’ve lost some teeth and hesitate to smile because of the gaps. If only you could go back in time and regain that full-toothed smile you once had. Guess what? With dental implants from The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston, you can!

For most patients, a dental implant is the ideal replacement for a missing tooth, because it replaces both the root and crown. They feel so authentic that some people forget they’re there!

A dental implant is a titanium post inserted into the jaw, where it fuses with the bone. A supporting device (called an abutment) and crown connect to the post.

While a single implant can support one artificial tooth, multiple implants can support a set of dentures.

Dental implants are available here at The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston. Patients from East Spring, West Cypress, and Klein also come to our office for complete general dentistry. Schedule an appointment with us today!

Are Floss Picks As Good As Regular Dental Floss?

are floss picks as good as regular floss? East Spring

Are floss picks as good as regular floss? While it’s better to floss with a floss pick than to not floss at all, it’s important to note that floss picks can only clean a part of the tooth’s surface. At The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston, we recommend traditional floss or tape. Here’s why:

A floss pick holds just a small piece of floss stretched in a straight line. But teeth are rounded, with occasional irregularities. A straight segment of floss just won’t conform to the contours of the tooth as well as traditional string floss.

By wrapping string floss completely around a tooth, you can clean off plaque far more effectively. We have seen patients who are dutiful floss pick users who developed decay due to a small crack the floss pick missed day after day.

Flossing, The Right Way

Here is a guide to proper flossing:

  • Cut a segment of floss about 18 inches long and securely wind each end around your middle fingers.
  • Take hold of the floss with your forefinger and thumb leaving about two inches to work with. Thread the floss between two teeth.
  • Hold the floss tightly against the side of the tooth and move it up and away from the gumline. You want to clean the space between the tooth and gum without pulling more gum tissue away, so it’s critical to scrape up and out of the pocket.
  • Move the floss around the tooth to clean every surface—especially those that your brush can’t reach. You can use a “shoeshine” method if you like. With 18 inches, you should have enough to furnish a clean segment for each tooth.
  • Some people find it simpler to start on one end of the upper teeth and clean each gap one by one until they reach the end on the opposite side, and then repeat for the lower arch.
  • If you don’t usually floss, your gums might bleed the first few times. The bleeding may be due to gum inflammation, the beginnings of gum disease. Keep flossing gently and the bleeding typically stops within a week or two.

At The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston we want all our patients to enjoy excellent dental health. That means daily flossing and brushing, and a checkup in our office every six months. We offer general and cosmetic dentistry. Schedule your next appointment today!

Soft, Medium, Or Buzz Lightyear?

Affordable Dentistry in Houston

At The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston, patients sometimes ask us how they should go about choosing a toothbrush. Picking this most basic dental health tool can be as hard as choosing a paint color, and there seem to be just as many choices.

The most important consideration for a toothbrush is soft bristles. We recommend them for everyone: our youngest patients to the oldest. Soft bristles are gentle on the surfaces of your teeth, but are still rigid enough to brush away plaque and food debris. Remember to use a light touch as you brush, so that the bristles don’t bend.

Tooth enamel is extremely sensitive, and it can wear down over time. Using a hard bristled brush can scratch it. That’s also why you should use a light touch as you brush.

If your child shows any resistance to brushing, get them involved by letting them choose their own brush. There are lots to choose from at the store, including brushes with just about any cartoon character you can think of. The important thing is to settle on one with the ADA seal of approval.

Brushing your teeth twice a day is essential to maintaining healthy teeth and gums. (So is flossing, but we’ll save that topic for another blog post.)

At The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston we offer general dentistry services. People from East Spring, West Cypress, and Klein also improve their smiles with cosmetic dentistry. Call for an appointment today!

Sparkling Smiles At The Gentle Art of Dentistry

affordable teeth whitening Houston

Sparkling smiles are more attractive than dull and yellow ones: you won’t get much disagreement there. Everybody likes to see a pleasing smile, and having beautiful teeth is also good for your self esteem. At The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston, we create sparkling smiles every day with cosmetic dentistry.

Unfortunately our teeth lose their luster as we grow older, but we see staining on young patients, too. To protect teeth from staining, it is vital to brush after meals to remove substances that can stain. After consuming acidic foods or drinks, however, it is better to rinse your mouth with water to dilute the acid. This will protect your enamel.

A great smile is a huge asset. It’s how we express a range of emotions without saying a word. Our goal is to draw your teeth and facial structure into harmony, so that you are able to present the world with the best possible you.

At The Gentle Art of Dentistry in Houston, teeth whitening is safe and effective. With whitening and other cosmetic dentistry procedures we have improved smiles throughout East Spring, West Cypress, and Klein. Schedule an appointment with us today!
